Leadership for Tomorrow's Leaders

“A good leader inspires others to have confidence in him or her.  A great leader inspires them to have confidence in themselves.”
   - Chuck Gallozzi

“The principal goal of education is to create [citizens] who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done.”
   -  Jean Piaget

“Above all things, I hope the education of the common people will be attended to, convinced that on their good sense we may rely with the most security for the preservation of a due degree of liberty.”

- Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1787

Lisa Mallory for Leander ISD Trustee
Lisa is a passionate advocate for leadership and believes that each and every person in society can find a place to lead.  Whether it's in our education system, or in business, churches, government, community service, the arts or sciences - whether you're a teacher, a cop, a bus driver, a pastor, a plumber or a parent - each of us has the potential to play an important role as a leader in our society.  Yet our country is suffering from a leadership deficit and a general decay in the moral standards necessary to maintain America's status as leader amongst nations.  Our current economic crisis is a recent example.  With better leadership and stronger moral character in our culture, the current economic crisis could have - and should have - been averted.  It's imperative that the students of the Leander ISD schools - tomorrow's leaders - graduate with not only the skills necessary to become the great leaders of tomorrow, but that they also have the character to lead Texas, and America, boldly into the future.
Solutions for Today's Parents

Lisa Mallory has professional experience across a broad spectrum of management issues.  She offers 25 years of business and project management experience to the LISD Board of Trustees, including 11 years of construction management and project management oversight of multi-million dollar public works construction projects.  A well-respected strategic planner, she served the Mayor of Los Angeles on a Special Advisory Committee on Technology Implementation in the 1990's, helping to create a blue print for leading Los Angeles into the next century, improving public access and city services through the wise implementation of modern tools of technology.

Lisa's experience will benefit Leander ISD residents through:

Improved District Ratings

The Austin area is respected for quality public education.  It's one reason that the area has been growing so fast.  Two local high schools - Westwood High and Westlake High - rank in the top 100 schools in the nation, but they're not in the Leander ISD!  There's no reason that LISD's schools should not also rank as the best in the country.  Our students have the capability to perform competitively, our teachers are well-qualified and our administrators competent.  So what's missing?  Lisa will bring her experience in inter-governmental relations to assist the District in reaching out to the surrounding school districts to determine the best practices that promote high academic performance and identify areas for improvement within the Leander ISD.  Better ratings will provide our taxpayers with higher property values and our students with more opportunities, since more colleges visit the nation's top-ranked schools.

Lower Bond Rates

Lisa's background in project management oversight of multi-million dollar construction programs brings a needed skill set to the Leander ISD Board of Trustees.  Bond rates are determined, in part, by how well the financial industry perceives the District will be managed by the Board.  Lisa's experience in oversight of public works construction programs will help provide confidence to the financial industry that the 23 new schools planned to be built can be delivered on-time and on-budget.

Prudent Oversight

Having served as a Project Management Oversight consultant to the Federal government for large scale public works construction projects, Lisa is an experienced watchdog for the taxpayers.  There is a growing concern in the District, given the current economic climate, that the growth projections made at the time the taxpayers approved over $850 million dollars worth of bonds at the peak of the housing bubble, may not continue to trend as projected.  Lisa will serve a dual role on the Board - both as the parent's advocate, to ensure that new schools necessary to handle the district's growth are approved and funded, and also as the taxpayers advocate, to ensure that new bonds are issued only as needed in response to legitimate needs.
